Description

Razah D'Shabbos - P23 - Essay: HaKnissah LeShabbos Kodesh - Entering into [and preparing for] Shabbos Kodesh What is the candle of the world, what was extinguished by Chava (Eve), and how does candle lighting fix this? Body and soul - an illuminated pairing. Candle lighting is the last act of work of the six days of the week, and the point of crossing over into Shabbos. At the end of time, there will no longer be any separation between heaven and earth, between the neshamah (soul) and the guf (body). Torah equips us with all the necessary means and strategies to battle evil. On Shabbos, the malach ha'maves (angel of death) subjugates himself to the Tree of Life. The importance of learning Torah on Shabbos, when we connect, through this elevated learning, to the Tree of Life. Since Torah and Israel are one, when we are in gallus (exile) and all dispersed, so is the Torah.
