Razah D'Shabbos - P20 - Essay: HaKnissah LeShabbos Kodesh - Entering into [and preparing for] Shabbos Kodesh
Preparing for Shabbos is so much more than the practical getting ready. Why was it that the sixth day - beyond the immedate proximity to Shabbos - was designated for getting ready for Shabbos? The midah (trait) / sefirah (emanation) which corresponds to teh sixth day and connects between shamayim (the upper world) and aretz (earth). Kavod shamayom (honoring Hashem) in this world, inherentely unstable, and in Shamayim, completely set and fixed. Upper beings exist in the consistent world of seichel (intellect) and da'as (understanding) - they are not distracted by a body whose desires pull them off their established and proper track. Living in this world, yet completely connected to the upper world and to Hashem. Besides its inherent kedushah (holiness), what is it that makes Shabbos so different from teh six days of the week? An erev Shabbos shopping story. Giving honor to Shabbos by properly preparing on the sixth day - how do we spend the last few hours before Shabbos?
