Description

Razah D'Shabbos - P16 - Essay: Tefillas Shabbos - Love and fear are the two movements of a person's soul. The effectiveness of Shabbos tefilos (prayers) is much greater than that of the weekdays. Feeling awe, like an unworthy servant in front of his master, we need the encouragement of the phrase "Hashem sefasai tiftach" (Hashem, open my lips) before Shmoneh Esreh (the amidah prayer). Two separate and conflicting emotions - awe and love; both are involved during praying. "King of the whole universe, or "You," my personal G-d? On Shabbos, which is "shamor (safeguard) vezachor (remember) bedibur echad (in one utterance)," there is non contradiction between ahavah (love) and yirah (fear/awe). Human beings are defined by their ability to speak which expresses the essence of the soul of life.
