On Shabbos, yirah (awe) which pulls away, and ahavah (love) which draws near, can coexist because of "bedibur echad" (in one expression). How is it that mankind "completes" Shabbos? A time when the "bad" will ultimately be turned into good. Tasting the Shabbos food on erev Shabbos to determine if it is properly prepared. Eating, although life-sustaining, lies a tthe root of all chata'im (sins) and can be dangerous.
