Description
When we recognize our inability to reach certain levels of holiness, our aspirations are weakened. Rebbe Nosson of Breslov explains that we hold ourselves back from doing teshuvah because of the great respect and awe we have for Hashem. We look at ourselves with our faults and low character, and we decide that we are not worthy of being close to Hashem. Our yetzer hara (evil inclination) tricks us into thinking that the only way we can come close to Hashem is through drastic measures.
