Description

Rav Kook did not believe in secular Zionism. Hallel on Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) and Israeli Day Parades are not what Zionism is all about. Zionism is a love of eretz Yisrael through a love of Torah and a love of the people of Israel. Culture does not bind us to eretz Yisrael. When we do not keep halacha (Jewish law) we cut ourself off from the rest of Klal Yisrael. All other nations only provide their citizens with external, superficial aspects of their culture while the Jewish people's connection is through the soul. A Jew who wants no connection to the Jewish people is a heretic.
