Looking at our sins between us and our fellowman that we cannot fix can lead us to despair. Rav Kook warns us not to give up hope and to believe that all the good that we've done will nullify our misdeeds. As long as it's sincere and clear that we are changing, Hashem will bring us to a place of total forgiveness. Behind the pain that teshuvah causes, is the simcha (joy) in the world.
