Rav Kook's Ma'amar "Al pnimius haTorah." p. 321. The Jewish people need great people, steeped in pnimius (inner) haTorah, with the ability to teach us. These are not just people who are great scholars and keep mitzvos, but those who have both an expansive, and deep way of looking at and understanding Yiddishkeit and who are great and deep thinkers. Mere halachic (Jewish law) knowledge is not sufficient. The great mistake some leaders make in telling us that we have no part in nistar (hidden part of Torah). The reluctance of some "old-guard" great rabbanim to enter into and teach pnimius haTorah to our generations. Being a great expert in tractate Baba Metziah does not necessarily make a rebbi into an expert of made the child tick, if he does not immerse himself in what's happening in the class-room and on the street. When will we open our eyes to the real problems of our generation.
