Description
Sixth Perek, 8th Torah. Sometimes a person has difficulty learning Torah because he really wants to continue davening. Learning is likened to eating, while tefillah (prayer, davening) is likened to drinking. The word 'tefillah' has the connotation of entanglement and connection. Davening before learning prepares us to learn. A healthy Jewish diet has both eating and drinking, davening and learning. Davening without learning Torah is a toevah (abomination). Learning Torah is what keeps the stormy emotions in check. Davening intensifies ratzon (will), and the power of the emotions. The major religions of the world are off-balance because they have a lot of prayer, but no Torah learning.
