Description

Reb Chaim Of Volozhin believed that tachlis (main point) of mitzvahs is devykus (cleaving) in Hashem but feared misunderstanding of chassidus. Talmid scholar who is not yiras shamayim is on a much lower level than a "simple" Jew. Torah will only be preserved with yiras (awe of) Hashem. Historic words from Nefesh haChayim on preparing to learn Torah. Objective of learning is to understand what we are learning. Reb Chaim believed that devykus is the reality we are in- not the emotion we are feeling. The Jewish way of "talking in learning." When we are saying words of Torah, Hashem is saying them with us in the heavens.
