The older generation and the younger generation do not understand each other because they are stuck in their own suffering and blaming each other. The generation is a wonder - full of darkness and light, very low and very high, completely guilty and completely innocent. It is impossible to judge the generation by what is on the surface. Throughout Jewish history, whenever there was a rejection of Hashem and Torah, there was a rejection of honesty, morals, and ethics.
