Description

On holidays we need to initiate kedusha (holiness) with a physical action, but on Shabbos kedusha exists automatically. Avraham Avinu traveled the world seeking kedusha (holiness). Yitzchok Avinu demonstrated that we can find kedusha within ourselves if we dig deep enough. Shabbos is a gift that we don’t have to earn, but we have to be careful not to discard. Moshe Rabeinu’s ability to prophesize was not dependent on his own actions. The Erev Shabbos rush is our attempt to release ourselves from physical limitations. Shabbos brings the recognition that Hashem is really always a part of us. The never-ending flow of chores that are present every Friday can be explained by the fact that we are preparing for a day of infinite kedusha. There is a custom to nap on Erev Shabbos so that we should be well rested to guard the day of Shabbos properly.
