Description
Rav Soloveichik was always aching for the erev (time prior to) Shabbos of his childhood. Preparation for a goal versus achievement of goal in the secular world. Anticipation and longing for mitzvah is not bound by space or time. Actual observance is for the moment. Rav Kook explained that working for something is as delightful as attaining it. Hashem loves remnants of Jews, of our songs and our holiday observance. Erev Shabbos is woven into Halacha (Jewish Law) itself. Rav Hutner explained that erev Shabbos is not just readiness but longing and expectation. Rebbi Akiva explained that Shir Hashirim (Song of Songs) brings the separate songs of the bride and groom together.
