We run after the yetzer hara (evil inclination) with its hands closed promising us exactly what we "want" in this world. When the yetzer hara opens its hand we are left with a very empty feeling since the yetzer hara's hands are empty. No one ever regreted learning Torah or keeping mitzvas. We are the children of the Creator. Hashem sends us thoughts to bring us closer to Him.
