Elul is a bridge between the end of the year and the beginning of the next year. Transition times are times of yearning and longing. Rosh Hashanah is also called Yom HaZikaron (The Day of Recalling) in the Torah. Only with teshuvah (return) can we be alive right now. Teshuvah means to remember who we were before we lost our idealism, hopes, and dreams. Reb Nosson came to Rebbe Nachman after a prolonged search for a tzaddik who would show him the way.
