Atzvus (sadness) is a trait which stems from a lack of emuna (faith). A ma’amin (believer) will have patience to deal with the setbacks in their service of G-d. Emunah can safely transport us through the harsh hurricanes of life. In Eretz Yisroel (the land of Israel) it’s easier to attain erech apayim (the quality of being slow to anger). Before we accept the rulership of G-d in the Shema prayer, we ask G-d to bring us to Eretz Yisroel.
