The three week period (between17th of Tammuz till the 9th of Av) is really the holiest time of the year. Hashem doesn't let us ignore the essential part of who we are. Hard times bring out our greatness. What is the difference between a blade of grass and a whole field? We have to find one mitzvah that we strive in and are willing to give up everything for it.
