Description

Moshe feared that he would be forgotten after his death, so G-d promised that he would be remembered every time parshas Shkalim (the reading of the half coins) is read. The nations of the worlds are under the care of a malach (angel) and therefore can be completely obliterated. Jews are under the protection of G-d and therefore can never be annihilated. In galus (exile), the sar (angel) of the host nation presides over us, but G-d discreetly protects us. As long as Moshe was alive G-d attended to the Jewish nation himself, but upon Moshe’s death the Jewish nation was placed in the care of the malach (angel) Gavriel. G-d promised Moshe that each year when we read Parshas Shkalim our direct link to G-d will be re-established. The nations believe that they control the Jewish nation, but G-d proves otherwise.
