Description

Unlike non-Jews, our existence is completely dependent on our connection to G-d. The closed mem (fourteenth letter in Hebrew alphabet) symbolizes freedom from oppressors, while the open mem symbolizes reaching for G-d. The subsequent exiles were intended to finish the job that the exile of Egypt failed to complete. Our enslavement in Egypt completely destroyed our old existence enabling us to acquire a new G-dly existence. When disconnected from G-d, we become the lowest nation in the world, but by reconnecting we can regain our leadership of the world. We have to live our lives as the Torah dictates rather then fitting Judaism into an otherwise non-Jewish lifestyle.
