In this Pshat shiur for the Aggadeta of Masechet Berachot 5b, we will study the insights of Rav Kook on the concept of Yisurim shel Ahava, isurim shel ahava. and the difference between yisurim shel kapara & yisurim shel ahava. How do we prove that certain yisurim cannot be shel ahava? Why would a great Tzaddik be inclined to reject yisurim shel ahava? Why does the gemora explain why Rebby Yochanan could not heal himself by formulating the principle אין חשוב מתיר עצמו, why didn't the gemora use the same terminology it employed in Chulin, i.e. "his 'zechus' helped others but not himself"? Rav Kook teaches that there are two distinct reasons why a Tzaddik cannot help himself.
