Description
P. 35 in the commentary (9th perek). The conquering of the nefesh behamis (animal soul) is really transforming it through the nefesh Elokis' (G-dly soul) great ahava (love) for Hashem. When the nefesh Elokis is on fire with excitement, the nefesh behamis will want join in the passion. Ahava k'rishpei aish (love like fiery coals) comes from a longing, while ahava k'mayim (love like water) is the love that comes from actually being close to the object of the love. A person needs both types of love in their marriage as well in their general avodas Hashem. Even where there is fiery love, there needs to be the underlying natural, unbreakable, steady love. This ahava k'mayim is what ultimately brings the nefesh behamis over to kedusha.
