Description

P. 18 in the commentary (9th perek). The emotions of the nefesh elokis, in the right side of the heart, are awakened from their dormancy through deeply thinking on holy things. The emotions of the nefesh behamis can rise up and completely confuse the mind. It is possible to track a ratzon (will) back to either the nefesh behamis or nefesh elokis. In raising children, it can be very difficult to separate out the emotions versus the intellect. There is no such thing as the 'good' part of me and the 'bad' part of me. Both nefashos want to have exclusive control over the body, and enslave the other. Like Yaakov and Esav, when one is on top, the other is down. This is the ikar (main) war. Each nefesh knows that the way to win is to take control of the sechel (mind). When you say 'ani' you are either talking about the nefesh behamis or nefesh elokis, both are not sharing the title.
