Description

P. 306. Understanding the repercussions of our actions in this world. Things that are forbidden are bound together with the three klips t'meios (impure shells). Our lives are negatively impacted if we are too preoccupied even with permitted physical matters (e.g., food). Eating leshem Shamayim (for Hashem's sake [to reconnect everything to its divine source]). If I do not contemplate Hashem at all while eating, I am separated from Elokus (godliness). The after-meal spiritual left-overs. THe importance of a good bentching or brachah acharonah (after meal blessings). After death, the body requires cleansing from permitted over-indulgences. Punishments are not hurt the person, but to purify and cleanse him. This cleansing is like beating a carpet to remove the dirt and dust. Taking just ten seconds to have a thought of serving Hashem with this meal elevates the entire eating process and food. From a spiritual perspective, it is easier to eat a piece of bread than a big and sumptuous meal.
