Description

People generally prefer superficiality to effort. English translations contribute to laziness. Mussar (proper conduct) is for transformation, not entertainment. Making an effort in personal avodah is difficult because there is no external motivation. The yetzer hara (evil inclination) will let us learn as long as we don’t apply the learning. Some people like sharp mussar like they like sharp food. A mikveh is not meant to be a men’s club. Ba'al Hatanya stresses that there is no avodah without effort. We always need new tricks in avodas Hashem, but no trick will replace hard work.
