Description

It is difficult to spiritually arouse ourselves with the intellect which heavily involves the ego. The intellect cannot explain why rikkud (dancing) has such a powerful effect on our soul. We become spiritual awakened by a noisy beis hamidrash (study hall) - in contrast to a quiet library. Vocalizing our tefillah (prayer) arouses the soul more than using the intellect in iyun (understanding) of our tefillah. Iyun tefillah is homework, not to be done in shul (synagogue) while davening (praying). The essential element in tefillah is the awareness of standing in the presence of The King. Arousing ourselves to shout out “hodu Lashem” (give thanks to Hashem) in our prayers by imagining ourselves standing opposite all of Creation.
