Description

Semester 3: Shi'ur 2. Building on our exploration of the historical sources for the ancient synagogue last week, this class evaluates the historical and archaeological sources on what these ancient synagogues looked like, and how they functioned. What can these sources tell us, and what sort of picture emerges from these sources with respect to Jewish society in the ancient world? What lessons can we derive from this account about the process of contemporary psak and the values that gedolei Torah weigh when making important decisions?
