From Sefer Heikitzu ViRaninu of the Chalban, pages 27-31. There are two aspects constantly fighting for control of man's mind. One is the individualistic, external outlook, where a person views his mission separate from everyone else. The second outlook, which is the penimiyus of life, is the inherent connection between everyone and everything. The external nature of reality is more recognizable but the second outlook is the higher and truer reality. The Truth lies beneath the surface. The battle a person engages in his entire life is to see the spark of Divinity that connects everyone and everything. The outlook of exile is that everything is separate and divided. This makes it harder to see the oneness in creation.
