Description
In this shiur on Halachik issues in the Mitzvah of Milchama (War), we will discuss the controversy between Rashi and the Rambam regarding the obligation to offer peace before going to war, is this to engender in our souls the attribute of compassion and it belongs to the category of Milchemes Reshus, or is this an essential obligation in Mitzvas Milchama and applies even in a Milchemes Mitzva? What about the law that apples to a siege, the requirement to leave an opening for the enemies to escape? Does this apply even to a Milchemes mitzva like the siege of our soldiers around Beirut in 1982 during the Peace for Galiliee Campaign? At the end of the shiur we will introduce the issue of the prohibition of cutting down trees during a war.
