Description

We'll study various episodes in the Torah that presume collective punishment. The parsha of the tenth plague, during which all bechorot died, even the bechor of the maidservant of Mitzrayim, and even the bechorot of Egyptian prisoners who were jailed in dungeons. In Yam Suf every last Mitzri died. In the destruction of Amalek, Shaul HaMelech was guilty of not destroying the children. Shimon & Levi will destroy all the male inhabitants of the city of Shechem. In the case of Ir HaNidachas, the Rambam rules that the entire city is put to death by sword including innocent women and children. We will study the Maharal's justification of Shimon & Levi under the law of Milchama. Finally is a human shield a Rodef? We turn to our Torah for guidance
