Description

“Jewishness” consists of two dimensions – act and feeling, deed and affect, behavior and emotion. On the one hand, Judaism is associated with certain actions like sitting in a sukkah, lighting Shabbat candles, drinking Kiddush wine or fasting on Yom Kippur. Yet, actions alone are insufficient. We affirm that there is a feeling or emotional aspect to Judaism as well – not just reciting the words of prayer but being transformed through prayer, not just drinking Kiddush wine but experiencing something about Shabbat. I suggest that if this message can effectively be transmitted to our children they will be more happily and fully engaged in Torah and mitzvoth.
