Why do we have a separate “New Year” – Rosh Chodesh Nissan – for the months of the year? Hachodesh Hazeh “Lachem” means there is exclusivity to the Jewish people in regard to the lunar calendar and its use. Why only Am Yisrael, and why the calculation of the years of the reign of our kings, specifically, by the years being counted beginning Nissan?
