Description

We will continue our study of the issue of permitting Muktza through an explicit declaration (תנאי), and we will focus our attention on the comment of the Ramah that although it is not our custom to accept the viability of תנאי, nevertheless the Minhag is to have a non-Jew move the candle on behalf of the Jew on Shabbat. We will analyze the insights of the Magen Avraham regarding this ruling of the Ramah. In general we can ask a non-Jew to move the candle for us but only לצורך גופו או מקומו; that is true even without Tenai. Tenai allows us to ask the non-Jew to move the candle even מחמה לצל. This is difficult since these distinctions should not apply to Muktza.
