One of the most important sections in Hilchos Shabbos is Siman #318, the prohibition against cooking. We seek to create a framework for this complex area of Halacha. Bishul is a concept that goes way beyond the laws of Shabbat and applies in Hilchot Korban Pesach, Hilchot Basar BiChalav, as well as in the laws of mixtures (ta'arovet). In this shiur we will compare & contrast the definition of Bishul as a universal concept & the definition of Meleches Bishul as a unique concept in the laws of Shabbat. We will study the concepts of Maygis (stirring a pot) & Bishul BiKli Sheni as Halachot that apply exclusively to the area of Meleches Bishul BiShabbat. The key to reveal the underlying definition of Bishul BiShabbat lies hidden in the Rambam.
