Description

We will study the main sugyos in Masechet Shabbat that deal with Muktza & Animals. The main question we will address is: does the Halacha assume an all-inclusive Issur Muktza that applies to all animals in all circumstances? Or does each group of animals and each situation require an analysis as to whether or not the animals are muktza? We often use birds, fish and other creatures for our own benefit even on Shabbos. Examples: baby chicks that a child plays with, singing birds, fish bowls & aquariums, etc. We will see the opinion of some Poskim to the effect that animals can be deemed "Muchan" since they are designated for use and enjoyment. The Rosh however claims that animals have no Shem Keli & deems them as stringent Muktza.
