Description

We continue our series on Mitzvot Bein Adam La'Makom with the mitzva of Kibbud Av VaEm. We will dedicate this shiur to answer the question: How significant is the Mitzvah of Honoring Parents? The Sugya of Kibbud in kudushin clearly identifies this mitzva as one on par with the greatest of Mitzvot, namely, honoring Hashem. In fact, the Gemara raises the possibility that Kibbud Av would trump other Mitzvot, even Shabbos. The Rambam formulates a dramatic answer to the question: how far does this mitzva go, and offers the most challenging scenarios of Kibbud which require super-human disciple in order to fulfill the Divine decree of Kibbud. We will touch on the issue of nursing homes & professional care for elderly parents.
