Description

What is the Halachik definition of "simcha" joy as a kiyum mitzva on Yom Tov, on Purim, on the occasion of eating Karbanot Shelamim? The Rav proves that the Rambam is consistent: simcha is not one's personal joy but rather one's gladdening the hearts of others, of orphans, widows, "gerim" and the poor. After sharing some stories about the Rav's personal sensitivity towards others, and his charitable nature, we introduce our discussion of honesty and the Issur Sheker. In this context we begin to study the giant of "Emes" in the previous generation, HaRav Yaakov Kaminetzky zatza"l.
