Description

The key to understand the position of Rebby Shimon who allows using the leftover oil after the flame went out, is the phrase "Yoshev U'metzapeh" which appears in both the sugya in Shabbos regarding the leftover oil as well as the sugya in Beitza regarding the wood of the succah that fell on the Chag. Rebby Shimon accepts muktza but has a broader, more inclusive definition of "Muchan". An object or foodstuff that one anticipates may become fit for use - it is a realistic possibility - is considered Muchan and not Muktza. In this shiur we will analyze a variety of cases in the light of the concept "Yoshev U'metzapeh".
