Description
Yom Kippur is a package deal; there is no atonement without first reestablishing a bond between man and fellow man. How does the exile in Mitzrayim serve as a furnace to remove impurities and develop the ethically sensitive Jewish soul? Time and again the Torah commands us regarding this higher moral standard "and you shall remember that you were slaves in Mitzrayim". How does the Rav present the essence of man as a dignified being created in the image of God? Why are the ten commandments given as one single entity? Man must actively pursue chesed and be create in his individual contribution. The communal prayer requires of man that his hands be clean of moral sins, otherwise his prayer is impure and unacceptable. Prayer requires Teshuva.
