Description

In the Rambam Hilchot Talmud Torah, 1:9, the Rambam defines the scope of the obligation of Torah study from the giants of Chachmei Yisrael who, despite their level of poverty, dedicated themselves to Torah study day and night. We will raise the following question, are even the destitute obligated - just if they suffer circumstances beyond their control we can apply the rule of Ones Rachmana Patrei - or are those people who are working to put food on the table for the next meal simply exempt from the mitzva of Talmud Torah and are only required to set aside intervals of time to fulfill the obligation of Vehagisa Bo Yomam VaLayla?
