Description

Can the municipal school force the local fathers to pay the salary of the melamdim for the teaching of Torah SheBa'al Peh? We will study the insight of the Emuna VeTorah on this issue. In the second part of the shiur we will analyze the view of the Lechem Mishna to the effect that the father is exempt from paying for his son's study of the oral Torah because the teacher is not permitted to receive payment for his teaching. What would be the father's obligation in cases of Torah She'ba'al'peh when the teacher is permitted to be paid? For example: Chiddushe sofrim, or "Talmud" according to the Rambam's definition of talmud. Or the case of a melamed who will have ot forfeit his job in order to teach Torah, he may be paid to offset his loss.
