Description

In the second part of Chapter IV of UBikashtem Misham, the Rav demonstrates that God Reveals Himself to man when the latter is in distress and is overwhelmed by dark despair and tragic suffering. A study of Tanach demonstrates that the great personalities of Israel, Yaakov, Moshe, Daniel, Yechezkel, Rebby Akiva, encounter the Infinite One not as an experience of joy and clarity of rational understanding, but rather in a terrifying moment of fear and dread, an experience in which man is totally passive, subjugating himself to the Divine command. Man must accept an absolute commitment to the Inscrutable Will of God. In revelation God closes in on man and there is nowhere for him to escape. The revealed Will does not tolerate any opposition.
