Description

One of the perplexing sections of Parshat Chukas is that of the copper snake which saved the lives of those who were bitten by a dangerous serpent. If the goal of the Nachash HaNechoshet is to encourage the individual whose life was hanging in the balance to have the proper intention as he raises his eyes towards Heaven, why the Nachash HaNechoshet? Why is the message of Adam Ki Yamut BaOhel - attached to Parshat Chukat? This sichat mussar is meant to encourage a deep faith experience not the all-too common shallow faith of those who are totally unprepared to face the darker challenges of life. In this context, the Chatam Sofer's unique take on "Rina Zu Tfilla" adds new meaning to Jewish suffering & Tzidduk HaDin.
