Description

This shiur is dedicated to a meticulous reading of many Halachot in the Rambam's Mishneh Torah, whether in Hilchot Talmud Torah or in Hilchot Shch'enim. We will develop two approaches to the Rambam. One understanding is presented by the Avodas HaMelech, the other by the Vilna Gaon. What are the pros and cons of each of these two approaches? Would a teacher of Torah be permitted to open up a school in a neighborhood where one already existed? Could he do so if he came from a different city?
