Gemara:
Inheritance is divided by lottery, but if there are three fields, the middle one is left out of the lottery so as to guarantee that the first born will inherit two contiguous fields. Is this Halacha derived from Scriptures, or from logic (svara)? And what's the status of a Yavam who inherits two portions, his own and that of his late brother? Do we guarantee the Yavam that he - like the bechor - will inherit two contiguous fields? This shiur will analyze the controversy between Abaye & Rava regarding the status of the inheritance of the Yavam, as well as the question of the right of the bechor to guarantee himself idis - the best quality land. The debate regarding the case of the brother who died before the father will also be addressed.
