Description

We will look at two definitions of Beit HaKneset. The first is a place designated for communal prayers. Any group of ten men are required to designate such a place in order to facilitate Tefila BiTzibbur. The second is the mitzva of building a permanent structure with walls and a roof, and this obligation devolves upon a city and generates a monetary obligation incumbent upon every member of the city to contribute for the building of the synagogue. The Beit Hakneset is owned by the city as a community and has a two-fold sanctity to it. Duplicating the Beit HaMikdash, Kedushat Mechitzot and Kedushat Makom. In this shiur will will study the Rashba in depth and attempt to explain what compelled the Rashba to re-interpret "Pshiuta".
