Rabbi Lev-Bochbot, a Rosh Kollel in Bnei Brak, researched this question and came to a conclusion which could possibly distinguish between a hotel’s public toilet and the toilet in one’s own hotel room. In the former case one can utilise the principles “p’sik reisha d’lo niche lei” and “kel’achar yad”. However, in one’s own hotel room, one obviously does not want a toilet to be unflushed and thus this makes the automatic flushing more questionable.
