      This besides the general problem of segula type activity. While not requring scientific proof, even the Rashba agreed that if it's not in the mitzva/Torah value category, actions need to be rational. Otherwise, one is taking away the Creator's free choice or to put it differently, one is relating to G-d as to an ATM: I do so-and-so and expect G-d to respond.
