The 2nd plenary session from Yeshiva University's Student Medical Ethics Society's Fifth Annual Fuld Family Medical Ethics Conference, "A Beautiful Mind: Jewish Approaches to Mental Health," given on October 31st 2010. Moderated by Mr. David Mandel, and featuring Dr. Trish Attia, Dr. David Pelcovitz, and Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski, this session discussed a number of issues related to addictions and substance abuse, including alcoholism, drug use, ethics involved in treating patients, lifnei iver for an addict drinking on Purim, kibbud av va'em as pertains to an addict parent, underage drinking, the increased risk of substance abuse and practical steps parents and the greater Jewish community can take to lower the number of teens at risk.
