Rambam defines Ahavas Hashem as Yiras Hashem; of course, he defines Yiras Hashem as both 1) fear of punishment, and 2) awe of Hashem. We thank Hashem for both what we perceive as good and what we perceive as bad; afterall, Hashem makes miracles so that the one for whom the miracle was performed only recognizes it in retrospect. The Maharsha says taht the Perek ends on a more positive note because the majority of the Perek is full of sad topics, and Ravina and Rav Ashi said it's not nice to end on a sad note.
