Description

There's no substitute for Seychel; while it's Assur for an Avel to wear laundered clothes, that doesn't mean that you have to be dirty. It's Assur to shave or trim any hair, but if a barber becomes an Avel while he's working on someone, that doesn't mean he should stop in the middle. An Avel may attend communal meals out of social obligation, as long as he gains no Simcha. R'Moshe says that part of a wife's duty to sit with her husband at a shul dinner, if he'll feel left out because she's not there, even if she's in Aveylus because of a social obligation.
